BSA Pack # 888

About Us

This site is intended to inform Pack 888 Scout parents about upcoming events as well as to provide easily accessible resources so we can deliver a quality program for our scouts.

In Cub Scouts, children in Kindergarten through 5th grade (ages 5 to 11 years old) are shown friendship, citizenship, character development, and personal fitness in a family oriented pack. Our goal is to make the Cub Scouting Program a meaningful journey of personal growth, learning, and most importantly, FUN!

Cub Scout Pack 888 is currently sponsored by Aldersgate United Methodist Church in Alexandria, Virginia. We meet regularly at the Church. Our Cub Scout Pack was founded in 1947. Most of our scouts attend Stratford Landing Elementary School but several of our scouts attend other local schools too. This is an active Pack run by some excellent parents. Cub Scout Pack’s are made up of “Dens” with each Den consisting of scouts in the same grade. Each Den has an adult leader. Dens meet individually on a monthly basis and the Pack (which is all of the dens) meets once a month.

Why Join? Cub Scouting teaches and reinforces many core skills and values like Character, Integrity, Honesty, & Leadership . Our scouts can learn while they're having fun. Activities that Cub Scout Pack 888 has done in the past include:

  • Building & launching model rockets
  • Pinewood Derby
  • Space Derby
  • Raingutter Regatta
  • Ice Skating
  • Cake Contest
  • Airplane Contest
  • Summer Day Camp (Ft. Belvoir, Virginia)
  • Summer overnight camp (Goshen, Virginia)
  • Blue & Gold Banquet (celebrates Boy Scout of America's Birthday)
  • Spring & Fall Campouts
  • Scouting for Food
  • George Washington’s Birthday Parade in Old Town, Alexandria
  • as well a large variety of other activities.

How Do I Join Cub Scouting? Cub Scouting is open to any child in Kindergarten through 5th grade. For more information please feel free to drop us a message by clicking "Contact Us" to the left.

Cub Scouting is for parents, too! Active, committed leaders and parents are the heart and soul of a successful Cub Scout pack. A little time and a little effort can make a huge difference in a young scout's life. Volunteer to help at one of our many events... you'll be glad you did!

My child is a 5th Grader, now what? Many of our Cub Scouts continue on in Boy Scouts. Choosing a Boy Scout Troop is much like choosing a group of friends with similar interests. Some Troops focus more on outdoor activities, some more on community service, etc. We suggest you visit each Troop. See the "Webelos to Scout" link to the left for links to area Troops and details on how to choose which is best for your son.

Please join us, and have fun with your child in the exciting and character-building world of Scouting!
